Fecal Coliform

WATR Volunteers collected fecal coliform data from 14 sites in the Tuckasegee Watershed (outside the Cherokee Reservation Boundaries) and identified 10 sites with unacceptable levels of bacteria, i.e., the mean concentrations exceeded the limit for bodily contact of 200 cfu/100ml. The two most contaminated sites were Scotts Creek and Savannah Creek. A meeting of local officials was called for 9/8/2004, leading to several actions focusing on Scotts Creek. A 14 page report is available through WATR offices.
